Read Me

  • Rachelle Anne Photography

I am the author of six YA books, including Midnight SunOutward BlondeA Really Awesome Mess and Notes from the Blender. I love hearing from my readers, so drop me a line at trish@trishcook.com.

  • Though I’m best known for my novels, I also love writing essays and memoir, and am a 2013 graduate of the Creative Nonfiction program at the University of Chicago’s Graham School.
  • My nonfiction work has most recently appeared in the Manifest-Station, Graze magazine, and Spittoon.
  • The best essay I read in grad school: Heroin/e by Cheryl Strayed. (A close second, the horrifying yet ridiculously compelling My Favorite Teacher.)
  • My most embarrassing moment to date: That time I met Cheryl Strayed at AWP not realizing she was the author of my favorite essay (this was before Wild and the incandescent Tiny Beautiful Things were released) and I asked her if Dear Sugar was a sex column, and if yes, how I might go about procuring a sex columnist job.
  • I am a misplaced Jersey Girl living in the Midwest.
  • My family and friends mean everything to me.
  • I believe that love conquers all.
  • My biggest unfulfilled dream is to be on The Amazing Race.
  • The closest I’ve ever come to that dream: I was a finalist to become a contestant on I Survived a Japanese Game Show.
  • I also got my family an interview to be on The Great American Road Trip but everyone refused to go (except my mother–let’s hear it for all the cool grandmas out there).
  • I’ve run two marathons and four half marathons. Favorite and personal best: Rock ‘n Roll Arizona. I also biked the MS150 twice, and man did my butt hurt.
  • I learned to play the guitar as an adult, and I love to write songs. If you have any connections at Toyota, please let them know I have a killer song about a Prius that would be perfect for their next advertising campaign.
  • I played Mamapalooza twice with my former “mom” band (without passing out, which is a pretty big feat considering my stage fright).
  • I row with the New Trier Masters, most recently competing in Masters Nationals and the Head of the Charles Regatta.
  • I recently won a contest and got to have dinner with Dee Snider of Twisted Sister. Having a glass of wine and bruschetta with a freaking rock star was pretty much the fulfillment of all my teenage dreams.
